Google Drive App: Family History on the Go

July 31, 2015

Are you looking for an app that allows you to record your journal or family history on the go and that also syncs effortlessly across all your devices including that computer you use once in a while?

Google Drive App is a great option if you want to create basic word processing documents and have them accessible anywhere, anytime.

I started using Google Drive for presentation notes but it has great potential for family historians.

  • Write and record information, stories, or photos on any device.
  • Access your document on any device, including your computer.
  • Share documents or photos with family members. Invite them to view or allow them to edit and add to your information.

I used Google Drive last summer to share a digital collection of family histories and photos I collected over the years. Use Google Drive allowed me to easily share my information with cousins and relatives I rarely see in person.

If you are not comfortable keeping permanent copies on Google Drive, use it to write stories, and then transfer them to a more private and permanent location. I like to use Google Drive for an online backup for my family histories and photos.

If you already have a Google account it is easy to start using Google Drive online and through the iTunes app. Also available in the Google Play Store for Android devices.
